The Wii Menu in 2022

Turning on my Nintendo Wii for the First Time in 10 Years!

It’s been probably 10+ years since I’ve turned this on. It looks like the last game I played was The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and it’s still in the disc! I really like that game.

Let’s Explore the Channels!

First, let’s go through all these channels. Each one had a custom startup screen, which was really cool.

  • Zelda Channel: This is where you could play The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which was the last major Zelda release for the Nintendo Wii.
  • Mii Channel: This is where you make your Mii, group them up, and stuff like that. The music is so classic.
  • Photo Channel: This is where you could look at pictures if you wanted to.
  • Wii Shop Channel: This channel is no longer working, but it was where you could buy games and download them.
  • Forecast Channel: This channel let you check the weather, which was pretty cool.
  • Netflix Channel: You could stream Netflix on your Wii, but it was only in 480p at best. Initially, you needed a disc to use it, but eventually, you could just use the app.
  • Internet Channel: This channel was basically the Opera browser, which was pretty cool. This was the first Nintendo console I remember having a full browser.
  • Everybody Votes Channel: This channel had a poll every day that you could vote on.
  • Mario Kart Channel: This is where you could play Mario Kart Wii. The game came with a racing wheel, but I never used it because it was terrible.
  • Wii Fit Channel: This channel was for the Wii Balance Board. Looks like the last time it was used was back in March 2012.
  • Nintendo Channel: This was just a basic channel for Nintendo stuff.
  • News Channel: This channel worked with Wii Connect 24, which was an always-online service that could send you news and information.

My Classic Games

Here are some of the classic games I have on my Wii:

  • Super Mario Bros. 3: This is a classic for me, and I know every secret to this game to this day.
  • Super Mario 3D World: This game released on the Nintendo Wii U, but it gave me a lot of Super Mario Bros. 3 vibes.
  • Kirby’s Avalanche: This is a puzzle game similar to Tetris, and I remember just buying it randomly because I saw it.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3: I remember having the first three Sonic games and Sonic and Knuckles. You could put Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 on top of Sonic and Knuckles, which gave you different levels and characters.
  • Ninja Gaiden: I played this so much! It’s a difficult game but I love the music and playstyle.
  • Mega Man 9: I love the classic Mega Man games, and I got this one on the Wii because I wanted to play it with a classic NES-style controller.
  • Mega Man 10: I got this one for the same reasons as Mega Man 9.

Wii Menu and Data

Let’s check out the Wii menu and see what save data I have.

  • SD Card: I have Sonic the Hedgehog on my SD card.
  • Save Data: I have save data for Mario Kart Wii, the Mega Man games, Defender Castle, Mario All-Stars, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports Resort, The Simpsons Game, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (which was a launch title for the Wii), Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario All-Stars.

Homebrew

You can hack the Wii and do Homebrew, which would let you get a lot more out of the console. Let me know if you want me to make a video about that.

Conclusion

Turning on my Wii after 10 years brought back a lot of great memories. It’s amazing how much this console was a part of my life. I recommend checking it out if you haven’t turned it on in a while. Thanks for watching!
