Storage Limitations: A Frustrating Reality

The PS5 boasts 825 gigabytes of storage, but only 667 gigabytes are actually available for users. This limitation quickly becomes a problem considering the massive file sizes of PS5 games and the ability to play PS4 games as well. While external storage can be used for PS4 games, internal storage expansion wasn’t initially possible. Fortunately, Sony has announced that internal storage expansion will become available in the summer of 2023, but the cost of gen four PCI SSDs will likely be a significant barrier for many gamers.

It’s clear that providing at least one terabyte of usable storage from the outset would have been a better decision. This would have allowed users to enjoy more games before requiring an upgrade.

Missing Features: A Call for Updates

Beyond storage, the PS5 lacks certain features that are present on its competitors, the Xbox Series X and S. Notably, there is no support for 1440p resolution. This omission is particularly frustrating for gamers who use monitors or widescreen displays. 1440p support would have been a simple firmware update to implement, making its absence even more baffling.

The Dualsense controller is undoubtedly a significant step forward, introducing impressive haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. However, it is not without flaws.

One persistent issue is the occurrence of stick drift. While this problem may not affect everyone, it is undeniably prevalent enough to warrant attention from Sony. A firmware update could potentially solve the issue, but physical hardware replacements might be necessary for some users. Sony should implement a warranty system to ensure quick and efficient swaps for affected controllers.

Despite its impressive features, the Dualsense’s battery life is still underwhelming, even compared to the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller. A slight improvement in battery life would be greatly appreciated by gamers. Additionally, offering a version of the Dualsense that uses AA batteries would provide a welcome option, mirroring the flexibility offered by the Xbox controller.

Availability Issues: A Persistent Problem

The PS5’s availability has been a major frustration for gamers since its launch. The ongoing global chip shortage has significantly hampered production, making it difficult for many to get their hands on a console. While Sony is working to increase production, it’s unclear when this issue will be fully resolved.
