Android 8.1 Will Bring Pixel Visual Core Chip To Life in Pixel 2
Google’s next Android update is hitting final preview, and this one brings a big update to the camera. Android 8.1 will turn on the Pixel Visual Core which will allow the camera app and any other app that developers for it to take advantage of AI-driven HDR+ photos. This will help in taking even better photos with the Pixel 2 camera. This feature will work very similar to how Portrait mode uses machine learning to improve the photo after its shot.
Developers are open to taking advantage of this Pixel Visual Core as long as they use the standard Android camera framework. This means apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat which have camera apps built into them can take advantage of using the new visual processor, which I hope they do as those apps don’t typically take as good of a picture as the standard camera app in your phone does. The preview beta is available now through the Android Beta program. If you want to wait for the official release, it should be pushing out to Pixel and Nexus devices starting next month.
