The LG G7 May Use LCD Instead Of OLED to Cut Cost
Reports have circulated that the LG G7 will most likely come with an LCD to cut cost. LG is expected to use MLCD+ displays which consumers 35 percent less power and brighter screen. The speculated reason for LG making this change is because of Apple, who tapped LG to make OLED displays for the rumored 5.8″ and 6.5″ iPhones coming late this year. LG did use an OLED with the V30 last year.
LG is likely making more money off selling smartphone displays compared to their own handsets which in the last two years has struggled against the competition. Their OLED displays haven’t been well received as Google choose to use them for the Pixel 2 XL. Users complained of poor colors and screen burning. In comparison, the Pixel 2 and both original Pixel phone display were Samsung made had fewer issues.
