Verizon a little while ago released an update to the XV6800 to upgrade the OS to Windows Mobile 6.1 and EV-DO Rev. A capability among other improvements.

XV6800_WM 7 I have created an walkthrough video on how to update your phone and a mini review of the improvements of Windows Mobile 6.1. I have also provided the link to the update. Click to view the video and comment.

Improvement listed by Verizon Wireless

  • Upgraded OS to Windows Mobile 6.1
  • Added EVDO Rev A capability
  • Updated the MMS client to be compatible with WM 6.1
  • Added Microsoft Remote Desktop Application
  • Added capability to use VzNavigator application.
  • Resolved compatibility issues with Microsoft Voice Command 1.6.
  • Added capability to read micro SD card of up to 16GB memory.

Also to Note

  • Thread SMS (Very vital feature as I noted in my original review Part 1 and Part 2)
  • HTC Task Manager Build it (Similar to the one I included in The Bowman Pack)
  • Better Overall System Response

As stated in my review overall the update is good but not earth shattering.

The Good

Threaded SMS, Better Memory Management and overall response time

Some Drawbacks

Feel very behind overall compared to the new mobile OSes such as Android, Blackberry and min OS X. Microsoft need to get on the ball and catch up by release Windows Mobile a whole lot sooner than later.

This recent delay doesn’t help much at all as everyone else is pulling out all the big stuff while they sit here and wait. Hopefully Windows Mobile 7 will be the big leap they need to get back in this.

Let me know what you think.
