Key Facts

· Previously announced at AT&T’s Developer Summit leading up to the International Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month, the Samsung Galaxy Note™ arrives in carbon blue and ceramic white at AT&T* stores beginning Feb. 19 for $299.99 with a two-year agreement.

· Customers excited to get their hands on this dream device even earlier can pre-order at http://www.att.com/galaxynote or any AT&T company-owned retail store beginning Sunday, Feb. 5 for delivery by Feb. 17.

· The Galaxy Note combines the best features of a smartphone with the larger viewing screen of a tablet and advanced technology in the S Pen™ — delivering an all-in-one device that allows users to work more efficiently and maintain productivity, while communicating in a unique, personal way.

· Galaxy Note boasts the world’s first 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED™ screen (1280×800), one of the largest screens on a smartphone, for sharp, clear colors and readability – both indoors and out. With the expansive high-resolution screen that provides an immersive viewing experience, customers can take full advantage of the large display, to create and consume more.

·The Galaxy Note includes a highly advanced tool called the S Pen, which delivers fast, responsive and precise control to create fine lines and detail on the device display, much like an ink pen and pad of paper. With the S Pen, users can easily sketch drawings, jot down notes, or write emails and texts quickly and easily in free-form handwriting.

· S Memo™, a multimedia application designed to capture all forms of user-created content captured by the S Pen, allows for pictures, voice recordings, typed text, handwritten notes or drawings to be combined via a single application, converted to a ‘memo’, and shared as desired.

·An easy screen-capture function also allows users to instantly save any screen, which can also be annotated with the S Pen before being saved or shared.

·Users can communicate in personal, creative ways expanding beyond traditional sharing methods with the Galaxy Note.

Accessories

The Galaxy Note features a unique portfolio of custom designed optional accessories including:

·Desktop Dock to get the most out of your Galaxy Note at home

·Galaxy Note S Pen Holder Kit which offers a solution for users in need of a more traditional writing instrument. With a spare S Pen included, the S Pen Holder secures the navigation tool inside and offers a comfortable grip and allows for more detailed use.

The Definitive Verizon Galaxy Nexus Review.

Every since the announcement back in October the Samsung Galaxy Nexus became the most talk about smartphones and one of the most talk about tech products this year. With an HD display and the highly anticipated new version of Google’s mobile OS Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich made this the most anticipated Android device of 2011 . After some delay its finally made it way to the market but did it live up to the hype?

Hardware & Design

This is the 2nd nexus device made by Samsung the first being the Nexus S. They have taken that same design and improved upon the specs. It comes with a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD curved display with 1280 x 720p resolution. Simply put this is one of the best screens you will see on a mobile device to date. Viewing pictures and HD video is pure joy to the eyes with crystal clear quality and vibrant colors. There is a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor from TI (Texas Instruments). It’s not the fastest or smoothest processor but works well enough for a good mobile experience and smooth HD video playback.

You have two cameras with a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera good enough for self portraits, video chat and used for the Face Lock feature which we will talk about in the software part of the review. The rear has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash plus 1080p HD video capture. To be honest the camera is a disappointment for the price range and level this phone is at in the market. The image and video quality is passable but you just expect better for the price. You can check out our sample pictures and video at the bottom of the review.

The frame is mostly made of plastic which feels like a solid build but I can see some that won’t be fond of the all plastic feel. Very few buttons and ports on the device with just a headphone jack and micro USB for ports and volume and power for buttons. There are no touch sensitive buttons as those controls are now on the actually screen within Android 4.0. There is no expandable storage but you get 32 GB of built-in storage, 1850 mAH battery, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and 4G LTE data. The hardware for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is passable for a high-end phone. There are still many phones out there that beat these specs but the specs are good enough to get the job done.

Software & Usability

The Galaxy Nexus is the first smartphone to have Android 4.0 also known s Ice Cream Sandwich or ICS for short. This is Google attempt and merging the best of Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Android 3.0 Honeycomb into one mobile operating system and make it work. It’s safe to say that they got the job done here. Android 4.0 is fast and responsive. They’ve done a good job in improving the overall look and feel and bringing a much more modern look. Apps, widgets and settings are much easier to reach and control. Core Google Apps look better with a fresh look and improved usability. Multitasking has improve dramatically with it now accessible right on the menu screen next to the back and home buttons. Tapping on the icon brings up all the apps that are running and you can quickly switch between them or with just a left or right swipe push them away to close them out. It’s a very welcomed change and improves the android experience.

The camera app improved for the better with zero shutter lag, more shooting options easier to navigate controls but I will say it still needs more improvement to the layout. Multimedia apps such as the Gallery now include a photo editor and they have include the Movie Studio app from Android 3.0 to create up to 1080p movies right on your phone.

Battery life is a mixed bag. Its improved in some areas while stayed the same in others. With normal usage you will get you about 10-12 hours but if you are a power user you will need to have a charger with you as the 4G LTE radio will drain the battery quickly and you’ll be looking at 6-8 hours before the phone is dead and will need to charged up. Standby time has improved. I’ve let it sit off the charger with just data coming and been able to get up to 2 days before it dies out. Call quality is decent with good audio on both ends. 4G LTE data is good but varies in speed depending on the area that you are in. If you look at the speed test in our video you’ll see we went between 4-14 Mbps download and 0.45 – 8 Mbps on the upload so your mileage will vary but should settle down once the network gets bigger. There is some complains about reception which we didn’t have but Verizon had stated the reception indicator reports your real reception poorly. You’re probably getting a better connection than what it says and Verizon said they will release a software update so that it show the levels of reception properly.

Overall

To answer your question, Yes, this is the best Android device available today. Android 4.0 is the best stock version of Android that will make the hardcore techies happy and the casual user can understand and use. The hardware is on the lacking side in my opinion for the $299 price tag . There are a few phones that outpace this in specs especially in the processor and camera areas that will soon be running Android 4.0 which begs the question How long will this be the top Android smartphone.? But until then if you are looking for the best of the best for android now and don’t want to wait the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is what you want to get.

The Samsung Stratosphere is a great 4G LTE phone with a QWERTY Keyboard. See why in our review!

The Samsung Stratosphere is definitely a device with a mix of old and new when it comes to specs. It’s 4G LTE phone and give with a physical QWERTY keyboard and access to Verizon’s high speed 4G LTE network. It’s specs are made to attract a 4G budget consumer. Does the Stratosphere accomplish this mission?

Hardware & Design

There is no denying it the Samsung Stratosphere shares many similarities to Samsung Epic 4G from a year ago. The almost all plastic build comes with a 4 inch Super AMOLED display which is always a great screen to look at on Samsung devices. The processor is a single-core at 1.0 GHz clock speed and it’s the Hummingbird processor which is the same one from the Galaxy S phones last year and keeps the phone just fast enough for smooth operation. There is a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera that’s decent enough for video chats and self portraits and on the back there is a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. The camera is on the very average level in terms of quality and there isn’t an HD option for video recording which is a disappointment.

One of the big features is the physical slide out keyboard that is spacious between keys and had a bright enough backlight to see in low light. Each key feels good when pressed down and it shouldn’t take long to become fast at typing on it. For storage you have 2.2 GB of build in storage available with a 4 GB micro SD card pre-installed and the slot supports up to 32 GB of storage. For connections there is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and 4G LTE data speeds. This mix of high and low make for an overall good hardware package. Its design had a bit of a toy look to it and it feels thick even for the mid-range level this phone is at.

Software & Usability

The Stratosphere rungs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Touch Wiz UI on top of it. It’s the same version from a year ago so if your familiar with Samsung devices then you’ve seen what this version of Touch Wiz had to offer. There isn’t much in terms of software to speak about other than your standard Android, Verizon VCast and Touch Wiz pre-installed apps which you can’t uninstall. The software performed for me as expected with the specs it has. It’s adequate for most people in the mid-range level for phones. It’s not a fast phone but it’s not slow by any means.

Call quality is good with solid connection and clear audio between both sides of the call. Battery life is pretty good with getting through the day on a single charge. If you’re using a lot of 4G data it will cut the time shorter and you’ll need to put it on a charge at least one more time during the day. Speaking of the 4G LTE data this phone performs excellent when using it as a hotspot. Connection is consistent with no drop offs. A lot of Verizon devices tend to drop the connect and need to reboot after using it for longer than 30 minutes. The Stratosphere stays good all the way through.

Overall

Samsung and Verizon did a good job here in making an affordable 4G LTE phone. For those that are not concerned about having the latest hardware specs it’s good option for them. You’ll get a phone with good battery life, good software performance and 4G LTE data. All things good to have at the budget price its at.

Got a Samsung Galaxy S2? Here's some tips on how to better use the great camera!

Camera phones are quickly becoming the replacement for your point and shoot digital camera. The Samsung Galaxy S2’s 8 Megapixel camera with LED Flash and 1080p HD video capture makes a great case for your go-to digital camera if you own one. I have a lot of friend recently who have purchased either the Epic 4G Touch, or the Galaxy S2 for T-Mobile or AT&T and also the Galaxy S II Skyrocket and they all come with this great camera but many of them didn’t know some of the ways to take advantage of the quality to take some great pics. I still had a review unit lying around so I figure I’d do a quick post on some tips to get the most of the camera.

Hit that settings icon on the bottom left. It has a ton of setting and features that you wouldn’t normally think to look at. It comes with many of the same features that you would find on a point and shoot digital camera. You can control exposure, white balance, anti-shake, timer, scene modes etc.

Fit more into your shots! Get everyone in that group photo! Go to setting then resolutions and choose the widescreen resolution shot to fit more people in. It will downgrade the resolution to 6.5 megapixels but that’s good enough and the lens is the most important part of the camera regardless of the resolution. Save those 8 MP shots for pictures focused on something specific and use the widescreen 6.5 MP shots for everyday pics.

The camera actually has a two-step button for taking pictures. While you can tap on the screen to focus you can also just as easily and more accurately hold down the virtual camera button on-screen, wait for the focus arrows to turn green and release your figure off the button and the picture will snap immediately in full focus. This will increase the number of clear and accurate shots you take.

You can edit the shortcuts on the left side of the camera app. You can have up to 4 shortcuts available all you need to do is hit the settings icon and at the very top of the list choose edit shortcuts and add/remove what you want. The same is available in the video recording section as well.

Now you know some cool ways to get the best out of your camera. These are just a few tips that I know and I want to hear from you if you have any others to share as well. Just post them below! Check below to seem some of these tips in action.
