Boot To Gecko is and HTML5 powered mobile OS from Mozilla. The whole idea is to give you the true full power of the web on a mobile device. Boot To Gecko takes most of the backend resources done on the device and pushed them through the web which lets the minimum specs for phones to be as low as 600 Mhz processor and 256 MB or RAM. With hardware specs equals to low cost phones with optimal performance. The OS is made with a Linux kernel with Mozilla’s Gecko browser engine on top.  In the video you will see  a demo  that was created using WebGL and hardware acceleration APIs showed a graphics-heavy crystal skull rotating. The game Jelly Drop and other built in HTML 5 based functions were smooth and responsive. Video play was also smooth with no lag.  Currently there is a registration process available for developers to start creating and submitting apps to the eventual app store that will be created for B2G. The day here is and Firefox 4 for android is now available in the Android market. It include cool features such as add-on support to expand capabilities, tabbed browning, Firefox sync which will sync all your Firefox data between desktop and mobile include opened tabs and improvements in speed over the stock android browser.  There is also the “Typing Awesome” section which does searches as you type and tries to predict what you are searching for without having to typing it all the way in.

Currently there is no flash support yet and there are quite a few devices that either will have issues running the browser or not supported at all so be sure to check the system requirements wiki. It asks for a phone that has a ARMv7 processor. I tried the browser on my Motorola DROID 1 and it was slow and had some bugs so beware before trying.

Mozilla has release their first beta of Firefox 4  which includes updates such as the Gecko 2.0 engine, tabs on top (windows only) a new extension manager, HD HTML 5 WedDM video format support, crash protection and a new HTML5 engine. Read on for more info and the link to the download.

Fennec the mobile web browser that Mozilla has been developing is now has a pre-alpha  available for download specifically for HTC Touch Pro phones.  The program has a number of user interface implications, including graphics designed for a 300 dpi screen, control layout intended for a vga screen and reliance on a hardware keyboard for text input.
