WInTV Aero-M is a USB TV tuner that will bring in all of the ATSC mobile TV stations right onto your laptop while on the go. One of the coolest laptops we saw at CES was the Acer Iconia. A laptop developed out of Taiwan it is a dual screen laptop that replace your traditional keyboard with touch screen LCD on the bottom and one on the top.

Both touch screens work very well together and you can move content between the two screens pretty easily.  This type of laptop is a graphic designers dream. Each screen is 14 inches and powered by a Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of Ram, 750 GB hard drive and weigh about 6 lbs. which is a lot lighter that I would have expected for this type of laptop. Today Verizon announced the launch of their 4G LTE network that will be available to users starting December 5th. Availability will start in most major cities such as Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and more.  Plans will start at $50 per month for 5 GB of data and the LG V600 will be the first device available for the new 4G data network. Apple fans: get excited. Tomorrow at 10:00AM Pacific/1:00PM Eastern, Apple will be hosting a SteveNote at the company campus. It is expected that Mr. Jobs will be announcing a number of new Mac (read: non- iOS device) products, as well as previewing the newest OS X release: 10.7. It has long been rumored that the cat-themed codename for this newest release would be “Lion”, and that has all but been confirmed with the press invitation seen above.

According to Cult of Mac, the MacBook Air ultra-thin laptop will receive a much-overdue update. The current 13.3″ model will get a battery upgrade, with battery life expected to be on par with recent MacBook Pros at 8-10 hours. Multiple sources confirm an 11.6-inch version will be introduced as well.

The folks over at CNET expect the Intel Core i3 replacing the current Intel Core 2 Duo CPU in the 13-inch Macbook Pro, new Nvidia GPUs in the 15- and 17- inch MacBook Pros, and SD slots in MacBook laptops.

We’ve all had to deal with the pain of using a laptop touchpad to try to get the work done of a regular mouse and the experience is less than stellar. Design & Hardware

The design philosophy behind the Swiftpoint  was to aim for a more comfortable feel when using it on your laptop. They found though though the near two years of testing and development that a pen like grip was the best way to go and prototyped 50 different models to get to the design they have now. From a hardware aspect the mouse has a solid build quality and comfortable grips that feel good on your fingertips.

Another major key in design was portability and with the mini usb docking station they have achieved probably the best portability a laptop mouse could have. The magnet has a solid grip and no matter how you shake it the mouse will stay put. The mouse has 1000dpi range and a cool quick charge feature that if you leave it on the charger for 30 seconds you will get a 1 hour charge and if you leave it on for a full 90 minutes you will get 2-4 weeks of battery life. Overall hardware design is solid and the best portability and battery life I’ve seen for a laptop mouse.

Usability

The mouse is totally plug and play so no need for any drivers. At first is going to be a bit strange to use with its uncommon grip style but doesn’t take very long to get used to.  The mouse does work on most common surfaces as it worked fine on the desk and slides and scrolls smoothly.  The scroll is also unique with being able to use your flinger to scroll like an normal scroll wheel or use the surface to do it as well. Very unique idea with scroll and a cool option to have. While the buttons are not in your traditional positions there is an automatic comfort you feel when using them as it feels just as natural as the traditional mouse button placement.

When using it on the front of your laptop it does work with most surfaces but you will want to put on the include parking accessory which will give you the whole bottom surface of your laptop and cover your touchpad so you don’t accidently touch it. They do tough that its 30-40% more efficient than a touchpad and without a doubt it is and couple possibly be even higher than that. One the parking accessory there is a magnetic spot that you can “park” your mouse on so  you can freely type and not worry about accidently mouse movements and clicks. This like the usb dock will make sure the mouse stays right where its at no matter how you shift or move around.

Overall

Swiftpoint shows that 18 months of development can really pay off as this mouse works and works very well right out of the gate. There is a small learning curve that doesn’t take long to overcome and they have really come in a solved a pet peeve of a lot of people (include myself) of having to use touchpads on laptops that are just inefficient for people who do heavy work on their laptops when they use them. If you are a designer or video editor and you use a laptop this mouse is what you have been waiting for as the portability is there and the experience is solid.

They are also looking to make a left handed version of the mouse as well

Microsoft Courier. Why Microsoft has it right this time

Over the years we have seen MS attempts to promote the next big thing, from the tablet PC running on windows xp with non-captive touch screens. To the ill-fated umpc that didn’t have the right OS or processor to boot. Through this process Apple has been acknowledged as the true innovator in the tech world, with the heralding of the Ipod, Iphone and stylish Mac books. This assumption might continue with its rumored Apple tablet (iSlate), speculated to debut in Jan 25th at Apple’s event.

The question is, what’s the big deal with a touch screen computer? Aren’t traditional laptops good enough. What about netbooks, aren’t they small and portable enough for the size conscious consumer?

The answer here is not about practicality or portability. But it rests with the assumption that consumers want their technology to evolve with their expectation. We want star trek tech today! Ease of use with our fingers, gesture controls that not only look cool but are practically cool. We are tired of the physical keyboard, the mouse was a great input tool, but its old. We want to feel in control, like we created the technology when showing off to friends.

So how does Microsoft have it right with Courier and Apple by all rumored indication  is moving on a more traditional path with the iSlate.
