AR Games is a game that takes advantage of Augment Reality with the included 6 AR cards that come with the system. To set the game up you lay down the question block card on the table and stand about 14 inches away from the card to activated it. One activated you will see a yellow box man pop up out of the card and present you with options. I decided to play the archery game first which has you shooting at targets that you have to move around the card to shoot them. The game takes advantage of the two cameras on the outside and the gyroscope. Very fun game which makes you think of the possibilities down the line of other games that will take advantage of it.
The next section we tried was the Star pics which involves the other AR cards. When you put these cards in front of the camera the character will come to life in full 3D. You can change the size, position and even the post of the character to get that ultimate Nintendo mash up photo you’ve always wanted. These cards really show the potential that could be with such gaming franchises such as Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh. Beyond those obvious uses I can see pluzzle games taking advantage of this tech as well such as Pluzzle Quest, Bejuewled or even Tetris. There is even some potential for Angry Birds to find a way of using augmented reality. AR games is a great tech demo of AR technology and I couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities of this tech to put gaming to the next level. Nintendo seems to find a way of always introducing the next big tech in gaming and it looks like they’ve done it again with the 3DS and augmented reality.
